  Richard was born in Pittsburg Co, OK to Ross C. and Irene Mason Byrd. His mother, Irene Mason Byrd Snelling, is also buried in Garden of Memories. She shares a stone with his wife, Wanda Louella Cassell Byrd. OBITUARY: Palestine (TX) Herald-Press, Wednesday, 14 November 1984: Mr. Byrd Graveside services for Richard E. Byrd, 55, Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Elkhart, the Revs. Don Pruitt and James Walker officiating. Services are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home. Mr. Byrd died Tuesday afternoon at his home. He was born Oct. 17, 1929 in Krebs, Okla., a son of the late Ross C. and Irene Mason Byrd. He was a retired Air Force master sergeant, having served both in Korea and Viet Nam. He has been associated with Johnson Engineering for the past 11 years and was a member of the Swanson Hill Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school. Survivors include his wife, the former Wanda Cassell; two sons, Rocky Byrd and Gary Byrd, both of Palestine, one daughter, Gayla Byrd of Palestine; one aunt, Bina Byrd of Palestine; and three grandchildren. Condolence calls will be received at the Byrd residence in the Swanson Hill Community, 729-xxxx. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
