- As I get older I'm more like my grandpa than I realized. Not all good things nessasarily but alike in so many ways. I was raised by an older, wiser more mature Dan Mckenzie. In his younger days he was always partying but as he got older he grew out of that scene.
Though we were 40 years apart and from different eras we have alot in common. Like him, I'm more of a home body, I dont get out as much to see friends or family as I should. Like me, His focus was on his wife, kids and work. He worked for the same company 35 years, only days he missed were the days his children were born(that's unheard of anymore). He was a great example for me and hopefully I'll be working for jecar 30 years from now!. He told me not to work my life away just like he was told, but we are too hard headed. I too have a shop I spend too much time in, but it's my ticket, and he knows it. He was known for the work he did with his hands, so am I. Family was always his #1 priority. His courage outweighed his fears always. Common sense came natural to him. He wanted his wifes home cookin over going to high $ restaurants. No man hit or raised his voice to a woman in his presence. He wasnt real strong but as tough as anyone. Wasn't too tough to cry though. Never a moment of self pity and he never showed signs of self doubt. All these things and so many more I vividly remember about him.. he left an everlasting impact on my life and who I am. I even got my name from him, I've wondered where I get the old man traits I have. I know though, Right from that man. Daniel Mckenzie
