- William (Bill) Fletcher Campbell, 61, of Destin, Fla., passed after a heroic battle with cancer, on Dec. 31. He was a 1965 graduate of Section High School in Section, Ala., a 1969 graduate of Auburn University, and received his master's degree in business from the University of Alabama. He served in the US Army in Germany. He had a love for sailing and founded Sailing South Inc. of Destin, Fla., which he operated for over 30 years. He was a long-time supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and conducted sailing schools for many years for the Boy Scouts and youth groups on the 76-foot Daniel Webster Clements Schooner which he designed and helped build. He also had a great love for animals and supported many animal protection foundations. Bill is preceded in death by his father, Harry Campbell; and his wife, Dianne Clements Campbell. He is survived by his wife, Amy Sue; two sons, Joseph Andrew, and Davis Allan; and stepdaughter, Stacy Leigh; mother, Mary Elizabeth Campbell; sister, Carroll Campbell Strickland (Mark); brother, Marvin Harrison Campbell II (Karen); niece, May Strickland Jennings (John); two nephews, Michael Harrison Strickland (Pam) and Harrison Jones Campbell (Bebe); and several great-nieces and nephews. Burial was held in Section, Ala. on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009. A local memorial service will commence at Destin United Methodist Church on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at 1 p.m. with Dr. Ken Taylor officiating.
