832 | HARTLEY - John E. Williams Sr., 84, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, in Amarillo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Hartley Christian Fellowship with the Rev. John Will Bookout, retired minister of Hartley, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Bobby Medford, pastor of the church. Burial will be in Hartley Cemetery with an honor guard from Fort Hood. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. John E. Williams Sr. was born Sept. 4, 1924, in Dalhart to Robert Marvin and Lena Williams. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On May 31, 1943, he married Faye Sims in Hartley. He was a heavy equipment operator for Hartley and Dallam counties. He also drove a school bus and worked in the Hartley school system. He loved to trap and did this for more than 25 years. He trapped anything with fur - coyote, bobcat and raccoon. John had been a resident of Hartley all his life and was a member of Hartley Christian Fellowship. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mickey Nobles, on July 22, 2007. Survivors include his wife, Faye; two sons, Johnny Williams and wife Jelene of Hartley and Stan Williams and wife Diane of Fritch; a daughter, Becky Brown and husband Curtis of Hartley; 10 grandchildren, Shannon, Judy, Stephanie, Brandon, Jody, Brandt, Jason, Jennie, Joey and Travis; and 24 great-grandchildren. 837 | Hazel L. Chambless, 87, of Nederland, went to her heavenly home Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Cypress Glen Nursing Home, in Port Arthur. Born July 15, 1923 to Nellie Mae Brown and Frank Johansen in Ringgold, Texas, she was a resident of the area for over fifty years. Hazel was a retired teacher from the Port Neches-Groves Independent School District. She is survived by her daughter, Katrina Janan Bennett of Nederland; son, Jaime Joe Chambless and his wife Brenda, of Nederland; grandchildren, Kimberly McMains, Clint Chambless, Derek Chambless, Amber Escagne, Brandon Bennett; and great grandchildren, Hallie McMains, Macie McMains, Jessica King, Evan Escagne, Sammy Escagne, Emmy Chambless, Ty Chambless, and Nash Chambless. Hazel is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Thomas Chambless; and brother Arthur Johansen. A gathering of her family and friends will be on Thursday, May 19, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Broussard's, 505 12th Street, Nederland.
