1652 WHITESBORO - Memorial services for Fred W. Rankin, 89, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro, with Mike Bentley officiating. He will be interred at Elm Branch Cemetery at a later date in Bardwell. Fred passed away on March 19, 2012 in Sherman at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital - WNJ. Fred Wayne Rankin was born on January 30, 1923 to Forrest Marshall and Josephine (Bethune) Rankin in Bardwell, Texas. He married Mary Clark on January 30, 1948 in Rankin. He served his country during World War II as a member of the Army Air Corps. He was proud to be a sixth-generation Texan. He was a garment factory manager for 43 years, most recently for Malouf's Garment Factory in Whitesboro. He preached at the Bristol, Texas Church of Christ and the Rankin, Texas Church of Christ. He was dearly loved by many. He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Rankin of Whitesboro; son, Micheal Wayne Rankin and wife Sandra Kaye of Whitesboro; daughters, Sharon Elaine Rankin of Garland; Linda Diane "Shug" Jones, and husband Eddy of Garland; Lucretia Frederich and husband Ron of Coppell; grandchildren, Regina Lenart of Lucas, Kevin Janway of Whitesboro, Chad Jones of Elgin, Okla., Cody Jones of Garland, Casey Podlucky of Plano, Elise Pruett of Farmers Branch, Olivia Frederich of Coppell; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Polly Rankin; brothers, Joe Rankin, John Rankin, and sister, Jerry Ann Griesenbeck all of Ennis; sister-in-law, Patricia Dunn; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dog, Sammy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Josephine Rankin; his brother, Bill Rankin; and his sister, Frances Hoyle. 1654 William (Bill) Fletcher Campbell, 61, of Destin, Fla., passed after a heroic battle with cancer, on Dec. 31. He was a 1965 graduate of Section High School in Section, Ala., a 1969 graduate of Auburn University, and received his master's degree in business from the University of Alabama. He served in the US Army in Germany. He had a love for sailing and founded Sailing South Inc. of Destin, Fla., which he operated for over 30 years. He was a long-time supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and conducted sailing schools for many years for the Boy Scouts and youth groups on the 76-foot Daniel Webster Clements Schooner which he designed and helped build. He also had a great love for animals and supported many animal protection foundations. Bill is preceded in death by his father, Harry Campbell; and his wife, Dianne Clements Campbell. He is survived by his wife, Amy Sue; two sons, Joseph Andrew, and Davis Allan; and stepdaughter, Stacy Leigh; mother, Mary Elizabeth Campbell; sister, Carroll Campbell Strickland (Mark); brother, Marvin Harrison Campbell II (Karen); niece, May Strickland Jennings (John); two nephews, Michael Harrison Strickland (Pam) and Harrison Jones Campbell (Bebe); and several great-nieces and nephews. Burial was held in Section, Ala. on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Omaha, TX, under direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home, Inc. Mr. Collins died Thursday, August 30, 2007 at his residence. He was born April 19, 1930 in Morris County, Texas. He retired from Lone Star Steel. He attended First United Pentecostal Church of Daingerfield and Cason First Baptist Church. 1659 William Married Letha Burrow. They Had nine children.He was a magistrate and was called Square Campbell.His home was North of the road in view of Pleasant Garden Meeting House(Church). This building was torn down and moved to another location and it was known as Maple Hill School, where he attended. It is possible that William married Rebecca Catherine Jones abt. 1661 William Starnes Wellborn, "Will", son of Elias and ELizabeth Wellborn was born 26 June 1826 in Langston, Jackson County, Alabama. On 28 Sept 1856, he married Elizabeth Reynolds, born 16 October 1836 in Bedford County, Tennessee to Henry and Mary (Brown) Reynolds. They had the following children, all born in Jackson County; James Lafayette, born 1857, died 1932, married Sarah Talley; Nancy Melvina, born 1858, died 1919, married William Cabaniss; Sarah Elizabeth, born 1859, died 1924, married John Wooten; David Elias, born 09 Sept 1861, died 25 November 1940 in Floyd County, Texas, married #1 Martha Virginia Cabaniss, #2 Ida Belle Carter; Margaret Ann, born 1863, died 1946, married James Allen; William Starnes, born 1865, died 1869, birned next to his father in Boyd Cemetery, Jackson County, and Mary Etoy, born 1867, after the death of her father, died 1948, married Jim Brown. William and Elizabeth also raised two orphans, William Maples born 1873, who was Elizabeth's sister's child, died 1928, married Nancy Reynolds; and Loren, born 1867, born 1867 in Tennessee, died 1940, married John Freeman. William was an educated man, called upon to handle the legal affairs of the family, acting as an administrator to John Maples, Joshua Wellborn, James Sublett, and his father, Elias, until his death. He was a land owner, farmer and raised horses. In May 1861, William prepared a "List of an Election" for the Alabama State Militia, held in Coffee Town, for the purpose of electing one Mayor General for the 9th Division, one Brigadier General for the 10th Brigade, same Division, also one Colonel for the 35th Regiment. The list has 52 names of local men serving. William and brothers James and George were conscripted into the Confederate Army and enlisted at Murfreesborough, TN on 07 Sept 1862 under Captain Henry F. Smith's Company, Col. A. A. Russell's Battalion of Partisan Rangers, 4th Alabama Calvary. On 09 January 1863, from Jiles County, Tennessee, he wrote to his wife Elizabeth, "I am now at Pulaski at a hospitle, detailed to waiton the sick. We came here yesterday. Our commander (Nathan B. Forrest) is gone to Columbia. I have been down early to Padduca on an expedition and we have had hard times, you may be sure. We was across the river in the swamps three weeks and Old Forrest fought the Yankees twelve times and he whipped them every time but once. He had to run the last time. I was in two of the battles. Nary one of our company was hurt, but I don't know how it happened, for the balls flew as thick as hail. We fought 4000 infantry and whipped them. They had histed the white flag and at that moment was reinforced by 4000 more and we had to leave in a hurry. I rode my little horse to death in that expedition. I have rode a hundred miles without stopping or feeding ..." The letter goes on to tell of the men in his company that were hurt or sick. William surrendered at Citronelle, Alabama, 04 May 1865 and at that time he was described as 5'11, light complexion, brown hair and blue eyes. William got jaundice in the War and died 23 June 1867, leaving Elizabeth with six small children and expecting their 7th child. Elizabeth remained in Jackson county until William's estate was settled. In 1887 she and youngest daughter Mary Etoy followed her children to Titus County, Texas. Son James remained in Jackson County on the homestead, where he died in 1932. Elizabeth died 12 Sept 1889 in Cookeville, Titus County, Texas. She was born December 16, 1901, in Scotland, Arkansas, to John and Saray (Reynolds) Lindsey. She was raised and educated in Scotland, AR. She married Hugh Wales on January 2, 1923, in Scotland, AR. The family moved to Yakima in 1955 where Mrs. Wales worked as a nurses aid until retiring in 1963. She was also a housewife and homemaker. Mrs. Wales was a member of the Methodist Church, and her hobbies included gardening, raising flowers and being with her family on all occasions. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mary Louise Fisher of Yakima, WA, and Mrs. Doris Jean Cooper of Kenta, WA, two sons, Lindsey Wales of Yakima, WA, and John Wales of Selah, WA, eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Wales in 1971, by an infant daughter, Carolyn June Wales and by five brothers, Edgar, Homer, James, Troy and John Lindsey. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 9th, at 1:00 PM in the Keith & Keith 9th Avenue Chapel. Interment will be in West Hills Memorial Park. 1682 Yakima Herald Republic, 19 May 1971: Hugh Harrison Wales, 75, of 1907 Jerome Ave., died Monday evening in the Veterans Hospital, Walla Walla. Mr. Wales was born in Arkansas, where he farmed several years before joining the U.S. Army, serving during World War I. He was in the veterans hospital at Whipple, Ariz., several years, and his family moved to Whipple in 1950. Five years later they all moved to Yakima. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 8. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gladys A. Wales; two sons, Lindsey of Yakima and John of Selah; two daughters, Mrs. Bob (Jean) Cooper of Kent and Mrs. Leonard (Mary) Fisher of Yakima; two sisters, Mrs. Neely Wilson and Mrs. Nell LeGrande, both of California; two brothers, Richard and Roy Wales, both of Arizona; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Dovie Harms and Bob Payne officiated and burial followed at Vamoosa Cemetery. Mrs. Branscum died Feb. 25, 2004, at an Ada hospital. She was born May 30, 1914, at Konawa to William Harmon and Willie Etta Cargle Neal. She was a longtime Konawa resident, a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She and Orville J. Branscum were married Sept. 26, 1939, near Konawa. He died Nov. 17, 2001. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Branscum was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Branscum, Sept. 18, 1977; her parents; three brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Hinman, and husband Lawrence, Konawa; a sister, Geneva Nelson, Konawa; two grandsons, Larry Hinman and Randall Hinman; and five great-grandchildren.
