Tonda Thomas Jan. 4, 2002 via email: NOTES: Samuel Houston Collins parents were supposedly Native American; One being 1/2 Indian and the other 3/4; Most likely Cherokee. He had one brother who went to Texas when he turned 18 and was never heard from again. Is said that his mother thought he tried to swin the river and drown but no one knows for sure. Samuel's mother also remarried after his father's death but no names are known. It was said that Samuel was also a Gambler. He farmed a little but never did very good and was wondered how they got along on that alone. If you see a picture of Samuel Houston, take a look at his cold, dark eyes. Makes you wonder!

Samuel married Lucinda Elizabeth Culver on 20 Jun 1874 in Jackson, Alabama, USA. Lucinda (daughter of David N. Culver and Martha C. Isbell) was born in Mar 1859 in Jackson, Alabama, USA; died in Apr 1932 in Morris County, Texas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
