Wilson Reynolds


Wilson Reynolds was the fifth child and third son born to David Reynolds and Plata Davis. Wilson was born in Douglas, Clark County, Illinois on May 16, 1834.

On October 21, 1855 he married Harriet Ruth Lycan, the daughter of William W. Lycan and Rebecca Heady. He and Harriet, who was born in 1835 had a total of seven children, four girls and three boys.

Their children were:

  • Almeda, born February 23, 1858, married George Columbus Joab, and died in West Terre Haute, Indiana on December 22, 1939;
  • Rosella, who was born in 1861 and died on September 1, 1916. It is unknown if Rosella ever married or had any children;
  • Commodore, their first son was born in April 1862 and died the very next year on September 2, 1863;
  • Armilda, born on March 26, 1864 and died at the age of 20 on May 12, 1884. She is buried in the Forsythe Cemetery in Clark County, Illinois;
  • William was born on May 25, 1866 and died at the age of 21 on November 22, 1887;
  • Mary E. was born in 1869 and died in 1916, she is also buried in the Forsythe Cemetery;
  • David Lee was born on April 8, 1875 and married Sophia May Rothenberger in 1908.

Wilson served with the Union Army during the Civil War. He was drafted on November 29, 1864 and sent to Company F, 50th Illinois Volunteers. He mustered out with the company on July 13, 1865, and returned to Clark County, Illinois.

Wilson died at the age of 45 on February 10, 1880 in Clark County and is buried in the Forsythe Cemetery. His wife Harriet lived for another 26 years and died in 1906.
